Get ready gadget fans. Tech giant Samsung is said to be getting ready to release its smartwatch device, called Galaxy Gear, early next month. If that's the case, Samsung will be the first among its peers to bring a smartwatch to market.

Competitors including Apple, Google and Microsoft are rumored to be working on smartwatch devices of their own. Apple, for instance, was said to be on a "hiring spree" last month ahead of the expected release of its "iWatch" sometime next year.

Citing a pair of people familiar with the device, Bloomberg.com reported today that the Galaxy Gear will be released on Sept. 4, two days before the IFA consumer electronics show kicks off in Berlin. While pricing is still a mystery, Bloomberg said Samsung's smartwatch will be powered by Google's Android operating system and is expected to go on sale this year.

When contacted by Entrepreneur.com, Samsung said it "does not comment on rumors or speculation." In March, Samsung confirmed to Bloomberg that it was indeed developing a smartwatch product.
